First half report: Seahawks trail 49ers 16-3

Another week, another uninspiring performance from the Seattle Seahawks in the first half. The Seahawks are on a two-game losing skid and unless major adjustments happen at half time, it’s going to extend into a third.

Normally this is where I would show Seahawks highlights. I mean, this article series is typically called “first half highlights” but just like last Sunday against the New York Giants, I simply do not have any to share. This first half has been all Niners.

Seattle had a promising opening drive, which ended in an interception at San Francisco’s 3-yard line. The 49ers then marched 90 yards in 13 plays to take a 3-0 lead, one they have not relinquished. The Seahawks and Niners traded punts, then in one play San Francisco extended their lead with a touchdown to Deebo Samuel. Poor tackle effort from Julian Love gave a free runway for Samuel to the end zone.

How did the Seahawks respond? By having Laviska Shenault fumble the ensuing kick off, to once again set an opponent up deep in Seattle territory. The Seahawks special teams have been an abject disaster to start the 2024 season.

Seattle did mount a legitimate response, finally, in the waning moments of the first half. The Seahawks made it to San Francisco’s 2-yard line, but decided to throw the ball four-straight times, including three fade routes to the left corner end zone. Seattle had to settle for a field goal.

San Francisco will get the ball to start the third quarter. Be sure to follow @TheSeahawksWire and @KoleMusgrove23 on Twitter for more live updates, analysis and highlights during the game.
