Final score prediction for Week 3: Jaguars vs. Chargers

The final score of the Jaguars’ road game against the Chargers will be ______.

History is not on the side of the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. In five trips to play on the road against the Chargers — four times in San Diego, once in Los Angeles, the Jaguars are 0-5 all-time.

The only three wins in the franchise’s history in Pacific Time Zone games came against the Oakland Raiders. The Jaguars are winless on the road against the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and the Los Angeles Rams (since their move from St. Louis).

On the other hand, Jacksonville looks to be on the right end of some serious injury luck for the second week in a row. The Indianapolis Colts got smashed last week without their top two receivers and star linebacker Shaquille Leonard in the lineup. This week, the Chargers will be without some combination of quarterback Justin Herbert, receiver Keenan Allen, cornerback J.C. Jackson, right tackle Trey Pipkins, and center Corey Linsley.

The only player on the Jaguars’ injury report is cornerback Shaquill Griffin, who is questionable.

If — and it’s a massive if — Jacksonville actually makes the trip and looks like it did in Week 2 against the Colts, there’s no reason to think the team won’t dominate again. But the Jaguars have a tendency of laying an egg after a cross-country flight.

I’m wary of predicting the Jaguars to win, but it also seems more likely than not that the Chargers will be starting Chase Daniel behind an offensive line with at least one backup.

Final score prediction: Jaguars 23, Chargers 17
