The Fiesta Bowl named sports industry leader Erik Moses as its Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Tuesday.
Moses has a track record as an attorney, entrepreneur, economic development professional and chief executive.
He played an integral part in creating, operationalizing and hosting the Military Bowl and AT&T Nations Football Classic.
Moses has also been a staple in the sports industry in Nashville, Tennessee. He revived and repositioned a dormant Nashville Superspeedway, serving as president and general manager since 2020.
During Moses’ first day with the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, which will host a College Football Playoff semifinal game on Dec. 31 in Glendale, Arizona, the third College Football Playoff top 25 rankings were released.
Moses discussed joining the Fiesta Bowl with Vols Wire. He was in attendance at Neyland Stadium for the Vols’ 38-33 victory against Florida Sept. 24.
“I had my chance to visit Neyland Stadium this year when the Vols beat Florida, and it was a once in a lifetime kind of opportunity,” Moses said. “I had heard all of the great things about that experience. In fact, my younger sister had been recruited by Tennessee for track and field. She and my mom went on a recruiting visit there and went to a football game. I remember her telling me many, many years ago about how incredible it was to be there with 100,000 people in one place at the same time. I got a chance to experience that Florida game, and it was great. I would like nothing more than to have the Vols out here for my first Fiesta Bowl as part of this family.”
Moses has a connection with Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker being both from Greensboro, North Carolina.
“I am a little bit also kind of partial because Hendon is from Greensboro, which is where I was born and where my family is from,” Moses said. “I have friends that have known them for a long time. A buddy of mine came to the Music City Bowl last year to see him play and I didn’t really know who he was then, but I certainly do now.”
