The saga of [autotag]Fernando Alonso[/autotag]’s next team in Formula 1 is over. On Thursday morning, Aston Martin announced that Alonso has re-signed with the race team on a multi-year contract. Alonso’s new deal comes as rumors floated around about Red Bull’s interest in pairing him with three-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen.
Mercedes was also viewed as a potential fit for the 42-year-old driver, but he decided that Aston Martin was the best team for him. Alonso has won two Formula 1 championships in 2005 and 2006, with his last win coming with Ferrari in 2013. Last year, the Spaniard had his best season since 2013 with eight podiums for Aston Martin.

In 2024, Alonso’s best finish is fifth in Saudi Arabia, and his worst finish is ninth in Bahrain. It has been a consistent start for the Aston Martin driver, who sits eighth in the point standings after four races. Alonso has the speed to contend for podiums this year, and a settled contract situation will only help his performance moving forward.
