Welcome to our 2020 fantasy football stock watch, in which we’ll examine who’s trending up or down in fantasy after each week.
Week 2 brought with it so many horrible injuries. We won’t include some of those players as having their stock down because, well, you know their stock is going down. Instead, we’ll focus on players who appear to be on the rise or fall based on their performances through two weeks.
So, as we do every week, let’s begin with the good news for fantasy owners about some of the QBs, RBs, WRs and TEs we watched, followed by the bad news:
Stock up
QB Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars
20-plus fantasy points in both of his games this year, three touchdowns in each, and while he tossed two INTs against the Titans, his 75.4 completion percentage is dazzling. He’s going to throw a ton this year, and that’s huge for fantasy owners.
QB Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
Another volume situation where the Bengals will be throwing a bunch (he tossed the football 61 times on Thursday night!).
RB Leonard Fournette, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
So much for “Ronald Jones is the top RB” talk. He got 12 carries and totaled 103 yards. It’s still a timeshare, but Fournette’s quiet Week 1 is in the past.
RB James Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars
He’s taken over the top job in Jacksonville without much competition. Chris Thompson got some work, but not much.
RB Myles Gaskin, Miami Dolphins
Matt Breida and Jordan Howard are still very much there in Miami. But Gaskin averaged 6.6 ypc and caught six passes on Sunday against the Bills. He’s worth stashing in case the Dolphins look his way more.
WR Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers
There were some not-so-great moments in Week 1, but he did go 6-for-57. This week? Eight catches on 13 targets for 92 yards and a touchdown. That’s some top-level WR production right there. He very much has Ben Roethlisberger’s attention.
WR Robby Anderson, Carolina Panthers
Week 1 could have been an anomaly. But he caught 9-of-10 passes for 109 yards in Week 2, giving him two straight games of top-end production. That seems like a trend!
TE Mike Gesicki, Miami Dolphins
That’s more like it. He busted out with eight catches, 130 yards and a TD after a rough first week
TE Jonnu Smith, Tennessee Titans
Three touchdowns in two games? Yep, time to buy in.
Stock down
QB Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles
He was here last week, he’s here again. Not good.
RB Nyheim Hines, Indianapolis Colts
I’m not saying one of the hotter pickups from Week 1 is suddenly worth dropping. But after so much usage against the Jags, he caught one pass and had no carries against the Vikings. Leave him on your bench next week.
WR Allen Robinson, Chicago Bears
Maybe the drama from the past week wasn’t unwarranted? He was targeted nine times and caught just three passes for a paltry 33 yards, with some misses from Mitchell Trubisky. I’d stick with him given the amount of targets, but it’s clear he’s more of a WR2 than a WR1 for now.
WR T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts
It doesn’t seem like Philip Rivers is looking his way that much.
TE Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles
Dallas Goedert is officially siphoning work from the star tight end. Uh-oh.
TE Chris Herndon, New York Jets
He should have gotten a lot more attention with Jamison Crowder out against the Niners. He caught one of his four looks. Ugh.
