Just because Arthur Smith is no longer in Atlanta doesn’t mean the Falcons are done adding former Titans. After signing 13 players to the practice squad on Wednesday, the team is expected to add linebacker Monty Rice to that list, according to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Tennessee selected Rice in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft out of the University of Georgia. Rice was waived by the Titans late in the 2023 season but was then claimed by New Orleans. The Saints released Rice during final roster cuts and now he joins their most-hated rival.
Over his first three NFL seasons, Rice has recorded 124 tackles (70 solo), three QB hits and two passes defended while appearing in 35 games (10 starts).
The #Falcons are signing LB Monty Rice to the practice squad, source says. Rice, a third-round pick of the #Titans in 2021, was waived by the #Saints at final cuts.

Rice will be the 14th member of Atlanta’s practice squad, leaving two more spots available. The Falcons also have defensive lineman Kenny Oginni on the practice squad but he doesn’t count towards the total due to the NFL’s International Player rules.
Atlanta completed a late-night trade on Wednesday, sending quarterback Taylor Heinicke to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft pick. Heinicke was entering the year as the team’s third-string QB, so it made sense for the Falcons to try and get something for him rather than outright release him at the 53-man roster deadline.
