Falcons sign linebacker to practice squad, release safety

Falcons sign linebacker to practice squad, release safety Dane Cruikshank….

The Atlanta Falcons have officially signed veteran linebacker Rashaan Evans to their 16-man practice squad, according to team reporter Terrin Waack. In a corresponding move, the Falcons released safety Dane Cruikshank from the practice squad on Tuesday.

Evans previously played for Atlanta in 2022, starting all 17 games and leading the team with 159 tackles (89 solo). Despite a productive campaign, Evans was not re-signed by Atlanta in 2023. The 28-year-old spent last season with the Dallas Cowboys, appearing in nine games with one start.

Since linebacker Troy Andersen is dealing with a knee injury, there’s a good chance Evans will be elevated from the practice squad or signed to the roster ahead of the team’s Week 5 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Falcons may have another practice squad opening. According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Buffalo Bills signed rookie defensive lineman Zion Logue off Atlanta’s practice squad. Teams can poach practice squad players from other teams as long as the player is signed to the active roster.

Logue was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 draft but did not make the team’s initial 53-man roster. The former Georgia Bulldog spent the first four weeks of the season on the practice squad but now lands on the Bills active roster.

Check out the team’s updated 53-man roster and latest injury report ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Buccaneers.
