Coming into Week 18, Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier needed 100 yards to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing milestone, and the rookie came through.
Allgeier went over the 100-yard mark in the third quarter and is now the second rookie in franchise history to go over 1,000 rushing yards. The first player to hit this milestone was William Andrews, who set the record (1,023 rushing yards) during his rookie season in 1979.
The fifth-round pick out of BYU has a powerful running style that fits head coach Arthur Smith’s system. Allgeier is clearly the Falcons’ running back of the future, and is worthy of Rookie of the Year consideration in the NFC.
