Falcons QB Matt Schaub retires after 16 NFL seasons

On Monday, during an end-of-the-season press conference, Falcons owner Arthur Blank told reporters that backup QB Matt Schaub, a 16-year NFL veteran, has officially retired.
Schaub’s career is pretty impressive in totality. While younger fans probably always think of him as Matt Ryan’s backup, Schaub got his start in Atlanta as a backup to Michael Vick way back in 2004.
After playing well in relief of Vick, the Texans traded for Schaub in 2007 where he was a starter for seven seasons.
For his career, Schaub has spent time with the Falcons, Texans, Ravens, & Raiders. He’s played in 155 games with 93 starts, throwing for 25,467 passing yards, 136 touchdowns, 91 interceptions, and a passer rating of 89.5.
Schaub’s departure leaves an opening for a backup quarterback in Atlanta, which Kurt Benkert the most likely candidate to fill after signing a futures contract on Monday
