Falcons offense shows out at Friday’s training camp practice

The Falcons offense balled out at Friday’s practice. Cousins and Penix were sharp while Atlanta’s playmakers stepped up

Perhaps the Atlanta Falcons don’t need Brandon Aiyuk after all. The team held its second training camp practice on Friday afternoon and the offense put on a show. Even though it was just one practice, Kirk Cousins already appears to be getting the most out of this young group.

The veteran quarterback spread the ball around with precision on Friday, completing passes to Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Darnell Mooney, Tyler Allgeier and Ray-Ray McCloud. According to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi, Cousins was nearly perfect for the day.

“Cousins went 15-of-16 during 11-on-11 drills against Atlanta’s second-team defense, spreading the ball out to eight different receivers,” Raimondi wrote on Twitter. “Darnell Mooney was Cousins’ most prolific target, catching five balls, while WR Drake London, TE Kyle Pitts and RB Tyler Allgeier all had two catches apiece.”

Rookie quarterback Micahel Penix Jr. was sharp as well, according to Raimondi: “Penix was 7-of-12 in 11-on-11 drills and had two eye-catching passing: a back-shoulder throw to WR Rondale Moore and a 55-yard dart to Moore down the sidelines that was catchable but bobbled.”

Regardless of who is starting for this team at quarterback, the future of the Falcons offense looks bright. We’ll see how the defense responds as training camp intensifies over the coming weeks. Watch highlights from Friday’s practice below, as shared by the team’s YouTube channel:
