Falcons expected to pursue free-agent QB Marcus Mariota

The Falcons have traded Matt Ryan to the Colts and are eyeing free-agent QB Marcus Mariota, per a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

While it hasn’t officially been announced, the Atlanta Falcons have reportedly agreed to trade Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts for a third-round pick.

Ryan has been a steady presence under center in Atlanta for 14 seasons, so finding a replacement won’t be easy. As we examined yesterday, the draft is an option, but it sounds like the Falcons are eyeing free-agent quarterback Marcus Mariota, per this tweet from NFL Netowork’s Mike Garafolo.

Mariota, like Falcons head coach Arthur Smith, began his career with the Tennessee Titans. Since being drafted second overall by Tennessee in 2015, the former Oregon standout has played in 74 games with 61 starts.

Mariota has thrown for 13,437 passing yards, with 77 touchdowns and 45 interceptions for a an 89.5 passer rating.
