A standout who played linebacker at Saginaw (Michigan) High School, Woodley was expected to join one of Michigan’s chief rivals — Michigan State. However, when coach Bobby Williams was fired, it gave Woodley something to think about, and his childhood favorite wasn’t a lock with John L. Smith at the helm.

Ultimately, he chose the Wolverines over the Spartans and USC on national signing day in 2003. Once he switched to defensive end upon arriving in Ann Arbor, he not only became a household name for Michigan fans but eventually for those in the NFL.

He was ranked No. 113 in the 247Sports all-time list of top recruits.

Woodley played 37 games in his four-year career with the maize and blue, but all of his production came in 2005-06 when he tallied 84 tackles, 30.5 for loss and an astounding 18 sacks.

He was selected in the second round of the 2007 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers and played 110 games for three teams in his nine-year NFL career.
