Ex-Lions TE Jesse James signs with the Chicago Bears

James was one of the Lions most disappointing free agents in recent years

Former Detroit Lions tight end Jesse James is staying within the NFC North division. The free agent TE has signed with the Chicago Bears.

It’s a one-year deal for James in Chicago. He spent the last two seasons with the Lions, arriving in 2019 as a heralded free agent acquisition by then-GM Bob Quinn.

It never worked out for James in Detroit. He was slow in his route-running and largely ineffective as an inline blocking presence. From the very first day of training camp in 2019 it was plainly obvious that another Lions free agent, Logan Thomas, was the superior player.

James, 27, caught 30 passes for 271 yards and two TDs in 32 games with the Lions
