Former Lions quarterback-turned-ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky will always have a soft spot for Detroit. He played for the Lions for seven seasons, primarily as a backup, before retiring after the 2015 campaign. Orlovsky is a big fan of what his old team did in the 2020 NFL Draft.
In a teleconference interview with Jamie Edmonds of ClickOnDetroit, Orlovsky couldn’t help but share his enthusiasm for the Lions draft class of 2020.
“You can make the case that they were one of the teams that got four starters in first four rounds,” Orlovsky said. “That’s a big deal. I thought it was a really strong draft.”
Orlovsky is correct in projecting the first four picks to all start, or at least play the most significant role at their respective positions. Jeff Okudah will certainly start at cornerback, Jonah Jackson appears poised to be one of the starting guards, D’Andre Swift will see extensive time at running back and Julian Okwara is expected to play a lot as a pass-rush EDGE. Later-round pick John Penisini could figure into the starting mix along the DL, too.
We could be seeing much more of Orlovsky on a national level. The ESPN analyst is one of the front-runners to take over for Booger McFarland in the new Monday Night Football broadcast booth.
