Ex-Jets linebacker joins Urban Meyer’s Jaguars staff

Former Jets linebacker Anthony Schlegel is set to become the Jaguars’ strength and conditioning coach under Urban Meyer.

A former Jets third-round pick is joining Urban Meyer’s coaching staff in Jacksonville.

Anthony Schlegel, who served under Meyer as an assistant at Ohio State from 2012-15, will become the Jaguars’ next head strength and conditioning coach.

Schlegel was a standout linebacker for the Buckeyes from 2003-2005. The Jets drafted him in 2006, but Schlegel played in just four games for New York as a rookie. He recorded one tackle and was released the following Septemeber,

Schlegel spent the 2007 season with the Bengals. He recorded 37 total tackles with four tackles for loss in 13 games. His NFL career ended there, although he would later be drafted by the Florida Tuskers of the now-defunct United Football league in 2009. He played for the Tuskers through 2010 before joining his alma mater’s staff in 2011.

Schlegel was already at Ohio State by the time Meyer joined the fold. This time, he’s following the head coach to the NFL.
