Ex-Jaguars S Sergio Brown reportedly in custody after month missing

Sergio Brown was reportedly deported from Mexico and taken into custody by authorities in connection with the death of his mother.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars safety Sergio Brown has been taken into custody in connection with the death of his mother, according to CNN.

Brown’s mother, 73-year-old Myrtle Brown, was found dead near a creek behind her Chicago-area home in mid-September. According to reports, medical examiners said that Brown died from injuries related to an assault and the death was ruled a homicide.

With authorities looking for him, Sergio Brown traveled to Mexico where he spent about a month before he was deported earlier this week and taken into custody in San Diego, according to CNN. He’s reportedly in the process of being transferred from California to Illinois.

Prior to getting deported, Brown posted videos on Instagram saying that he thought his mother was on vacation, that he had been kidnapped twice by the FBI, and that reports about the situation were “fake news.”

Brown, 35, appeared in 15 games and started four during a one-year stint with the Jaguars in 2015. The defensive back also spent time with the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and Buffalo Bills.
