Former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Chip Banks is in serious condition following a shooting that took place on Wednesday in Atlanta.

ESPN reported that Banks was one of three victims with apparent gunshot wounds and is in serious condition. The shooting was first reported by TMZ.

Banks was one of three men with apparent gunshot wounds when officers responded to a shooting in Atlanta just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, Atlanta police spokeswoman Marla Rooker said in an email to The Associated Press.

One of the victims, Charles Pharms Jr., was declared dead at the scene, according to Rooker. Banks and the third man were alert and transported to a local hospital.

A product of USC, Banks was the No. 3 overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft to the Cleveland Browns. He also spent time with the San Diego Chargers (1987) before joining the Colts (1989-1992) for the final four years of his career.

Banks earned four Pro Bowls and one All-Pro nod throughout his career. He was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1982.
