Having a famous father as a well known pro wrestler doesn’t hurt when getting started in the business, and former NXT Champion Bron Breakker certainly isn’t alone in his status as a second generation star. There are times, however, that it can be a double-edged sword.
Such was the case in March, when Breakker’s father, WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner, was accused of making transphobic comments toward Impact Wrestling’s Gisele Shaw at the WrestleCon convention in Los Angeles. Shaw, a trans woman, claimed that Steiner called her a “piece of trash and filth,” among other things, and used a homophobic slur toward another Impact wrestler.
Shaw’s allegations were backed up by others at WrestleCon, and the convention later apologized to Shaw and the wider LGBTQ+ community while banning Steiner from the rest of its 2023 events. It was a story that made national headlines, including some from outlets that don’t typically cover pro wrestling.
During his appearance on an upcoming episode of the Under the Ring podcast, Breaker commented for the first time on the reported WrestleCon incident when asked about it by host Phil Strum:
“Yeah, you know, I appreciate the question,” Breakker said. “I can’t speak for my father, but that’s not a reflection of me and who I am and what I’m about.”
Be sure to check out Strum’s full interview with Breakker, which covers a wide range of topics, when the latest episode of the Under the Ring podcast drops on Monday, June 19.
