Three short years ago, DeShone Kizer was brimming with promise. The Cleveland Browns had just selected Kizer in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and the quarterback from Notre Dame was poised to fill the long-running void in Cleveland.
The optimism quickly faded. Kizer led the NFL in giveaways while leading the Browns to just the second winless season in NFL history as a rookie. Cleveland quickly cut bait, dealing him to Green Bay for Damarious Randall.
It didn’t get better for Kizer with the Packers, and now his fledgling career is on life support. The Las Vegas Raiders waived Kizer on Tuesday, the third NFL team in as many years to end the Kizer experiment. He didn’t play in 2019 after seeing only mop-up duty with the Packers in 2018.
