Thursday is here once more, and with it comes the next round of Epic free games announcements, including a survival horror game you can dive into with friends. For the week of Nov. 17, 2022, through Nov. 24, 2022, you can get Evil Dead: The Game, featuring Bruce Campbell himself, and Dark Deity for the cost of absolutely nothing on the Epic Games Store, and like all Epic free games, once you download these, they stay in your library even after the free week period ends.
Evil Dead: The Game is an asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror game, which is a long way of saying “it’s like Dead by Daylight.” You play as either the good folks or the baddies and try to either survive or keep the heroes from making it out alive.
Where Dead by Daylight draws on classic and modern horror franchises for its roster of survivors and killers, Evil Dead: The Game pulls from, well, Evil Dead. Characters, villains, and locations from all three movies make an appearance, including Ash and Kelly Maxwell, with a gruesome arsenal of weapons at their disposal.

On the other end of the spectrum is Dark Deity from developer Sword & Axe, a turn-based tactical RPG with swords, sorcery, and plenty of interpersonal drama and romance. You guide a team of rookie warriors from Brookstead Military Academy as they uncover the dreadful truth behind why their school was shut down – and what their kind planned for them and the other students.
What starts as an inversion of the school story format grows into something much grander, with over two dozen recruitable characters, 28 chapters that span the continent of Terrazael, and no end of chances to build support relationships and romance between your band of rebels, all of which is a not-so-subtle nod to Nintendo’s classic Fire Emblem franchise.
While you wait for the date to change, you can pick up Alba: A Wildlife Adventure and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun now.
