The Kentucky Wildcats got 488 yards of total offense to snap a string of nine consecutive quarters without a touchdown in Saturday’s 41-6 victory over the Ohio Bobcats at Kroger Field.
Brock Vandagriff threw for 237 yards on 17-of-24 passing, and the Wildcats rushed for over 200 yards between tailbacks Demie Sumo-Karngbaye and redshirt freshman Jamarion Wilcox — the latter who ran for 82 yards on eight carries.
Wide receiver Dane Key had seven catches for a career-high 145 yards. That included a 15-yard grab to set up a 1st-and-goal on Kentucky’s first touchdown drive, and a 42-yard catch on the following series with the Wildcats facing 3rd-and-13 from their own 17-yard line.
While the win was far from perfect from an execution standpoints, Mark Stoops is grateful that his team is back in the win column before heading to No. 5 Ole Miss in another challenging SEC showdown next Saturday.
“It’s good to get back in the win column obviously,” Stoops said after the game. “I feel like the last couple of weeks, our guys have really worked hard to get some things corrected. Had the right mindset in their preparation. We want to be more consistent. Obviously today was far from perfect.”
“They knew that you have to go beat ’em,” Stoops added. “You have to go win the snap and it was going to be methodical in some ways. (Ohio) is a good team. They’re well-coached (and) they keep things in front of them. They play extremely hard and they mix up some pressures.”
Here’s everything Stoops said after Saturday’s victory.
