Tennessee will open its 2023 season on Saturday versus Virginia.
Kickoff between the Vols and Cavaliers is slated for noon EDT at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. ABC will televise the season-opening matchup.
2023 will be the third season for Tennessee under head coach Josh Heupel.
Heupel met with media Monday and previewed the Virginia game.
“Best five words in Tennessee are ‘It’s football time in Tennessee’,” Heupel said. “Officially game week, looking forward to the opportunity of going and playing with this program. It’s awesome that we get an opportunity to start inside midstate. Huge fan following there, but you look at the opportunity we have. We have a great opponent, “SEC Nation” is going to be there, national TV audience as we kick off the 2023 season.
“Looking forward to being there, having an opportunity to recruit on Friday night, as well and continue to showcase ourselves in front of the entire country, but have our followers in the midstate have an opportunity to host us there, so looking forward to that. Ready to kick off, time to go play. I’m here and I’m going to say a bunch of words, but it’s time to go play.”
