Cade Klubnik and the Clemson Tigers’ offense shined for the second straight game, cruising to a 59-35 victory over the rival NC State Wolfpack Saturday in Death Valley.
The win was the 800th in program history for Clemson football, which became the 14th FBS (formerly Division I-A) school to reach that plateau. The Tigers are also the first ACC team to hit 800 wins.
“Really cool to be part of the 800th win,” a happy Dabo Swinney said at his postgame press conference Saturday. “That’s kind of right place, right time to be part of something like that. To be the 14th FBS program to ever do that, that’s a pretty cool moment. That’s awesome and a great way for us to start conference play.”
Clemson (2-1) scored touchdowns on its first four possessions to grab a 28-0 lead after the first quarter. Before NC State’s (2-2) offense closed out the fourth quarter with 21 points to make the final score a bit closer than the game itself was, the Tigers led 52-7 at one point in the third quarter.
