Cade Klubnik was the talk of Tigertown and much of the ACC Saturday night after his historic first-half performance against Appalachian State.
The Tigers’ quarterback finished 24 of 26 for 378 yards and accounted for seven touchdowns — five passing and two rushing — in the team’s 66-20 victory. In the first quarter alone, Klubnik was 11 of 11 for 233 passing yards and three touchdown throws, plus another rushing touchdown as Clemson built a 35-0 lead.
Before his night was over at halftime, he added three more scores in the second quarter: a three-yard touchdown run, a 33-yard strike to freshman receiver TJ Moore, and a 17-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jake Briningstool.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Klubnik became the first player in 25 years to throw for five or more touchdowns, rush for two or more touchdowns, and complete 90 percent of his passes in one half of FBS football.
Klubnik met with reporters after the game. Not surprisingly, his spirits were plenty high after a record-setting performance.
“It’s fun to win. It’s just a great feeling when you just go win a game like that,” Klubnik said. “I’m just really proud of these guys. It’s definitely a fun locker room. It’s a new team so having your first win as a team, it’s always super fun.”
