Washington’s NFL team released a statement on Friday in which the franchise announced it would “undergo a thorough review of the team’s name,” indicating a change is probably on the way.
Of course, everyone has spent the last 24 hours coming up with new names for the team, which continued after Friday’s announcement.
That’s included lots of people making the same joke: given the franchise’s struggles and the fact that they’re in Washington, they should call themselves the Generals.
In case you’re not aware, the Washington Generals were the team that lost A LOT against the Harem Globetrotters.
Here’s a roundup:
I have a joke about the new Redskins name: they should call themselves the Washington Generals because they’re always losing! Crushed it

Given their winning percentage the past decade-plus, the Washington Generals would work. https://t.co/oKAQ7WLjWB

Change their name to the Washington Generals. They've been playing as good as the generals since Snyder took over anyway. pic.twitter.com/pHpR5YveWd
