Even with win, Jets keep hold of top-10 pick in 2024 draft

The Jets beat the Texans in Week 14 and still hold a top-10 draft pick, which isn’t a bad combination.

You could say the Jets got the best of both worlds in their 30-6 win over the Houston Texans. They get a much-needed win with a dominant performance over a playoff contender. They also remain inside the top ten of the current order for the 2024 NFL Draft.

The win over the Texans moved the Jets to 5-8 on the season. After Sunday’s action, the Jets are among four teams sitting at 5-8 — the Jets are tied with the Bears, Raiders and Chargers. The Jets have the third-easiest schedule among the four teams, ahead of only the Chargers. At the moment, the Jets would sit with the No. 9 pick in the draft.

Unless the Carolina Panthers make a miraculous turnaround in the final four weeks, they’ll end up with the worst record in the NFL and gift the No. 1 pick to the Bears. The Patriots and Cardinals both sit at 3-10 followed by the Commanders at 4-9. Then it’s two teams playing on Monday night, the Giants and Titans, sitting at 4-8 and then the group of 5-8 teams including the Jets.

The win may have kept faint playoff hopes alive but with six teams at 7-6 and a lot of them playing each other over the final four weeks, the odds are very miniscule for the Jets to crash the postseason party. So for most, it’s tracking Tankathon over the final four weeks.
