Even after boos, Jerod Mayo sees light at end of tunnel for Patriots

Jerod Mayo is trusting in the process

New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo is still confident in the direction the team is ultimately headed, despite the ongoing struggles this season.

The Patriots are currently sitting with a 3-13 record after dropping an ugly 40-7 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 17. It was the team’s worst loss of the season, and it ended with “fire Mayo” chants breaking out at Gillette Stadium.

“For me, my confidence is still high,” said Mayo, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “We’re on a journey. So you’re going to have to go through the fire, go through the boos, go through the criticism to get to where you want to go. Anything worth having has to be hard and that’s what it is right now.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes ownership wants to give Mayo an opportunity to grow into the role. It’s clear that the coach does not lack confidence in his own right and is taking a measured approach to things.

Ultimately, the ball is in Robert Kraft’s court on how the team moves forward from here. It could all come down to how deeply he trusts Mayo’s vision.
