Evan Mobley joined Jordan, others for assists, blocks to begin career

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Evan Mobley is off to a tremendous start and the third overall pick recently joined some rare company in a couple of statistical categories to begin a season.

Mobley, who was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month, is averaging 14 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 blocked shots in 21 games this season. He has been remarkable on both ends of the floor given his unique skill set and has the stats to prove it.

The 7-footer totaled 53 assists and 38 blocks over his first 20 games of the season. He is just the fifth player in history to reach those numbers, joining Michael Jordan, Bill Walton, Chris Webber and Mychal Thompson.

Mobley ranked second in scoring over the first two months of the season while he led all rookies in blocks, field-goal percentage (49%) and double-doubles (4). He was the fastest rookie in team history to reach 200 points and 100 rebounds (14 games).

He certainly has the chance to reach some air throughout his career given his unique ability as a player that can defend at a high level, dominate inside of the paint and get others involved. Certainly, joining Jordan, Walton and those other players is always good company to be in.
