ESPN’s ‘The Last Dance’ drew a massive audience for the premiere

More than 6 million people tuned in to watch Michael Jordan and the Bulls.

Basketball fans stuck at home with no sports to watch begged ESPN to move up the release window for its 10-part documentary series “The Last Dance,” and the decision to push up the release to Sunday night turned out to be a very wise decision. With absolutely no competition on TV, “The Last Dance” posted an incredible rating on night 1 – and the series should only get better as it progresses.

ESPN announced on Monday that “The Last Dance” is already the most-watched documentary in the company’s history, with an average of 6.1 million viewers for the first two episodes on Sunday night.

Via ESPN:

“The Last Dance” averaged 6.1 million viewers for episodes 1 and 2 across ESPN & ESPN2 from 9-11 p.m. ET. Of those 6.1 million, 3.5 million were in the 18-49 demo. Episode 1 (9-10 p.m.) averaged 6.3 million viewers and episode 2 (10-11 p.m.) averaged 5.8 million viewers.

“The Last Dance” will continue each Sunday night through May 17th, with two episodes airing each week.
