One of the long-time mainstays in the college basketball landscape has been ESPN’s Seth Greenberg. Before serving as an analyst for the worldwide leader in sports, Greenberg was a long-time college basketball coach, most notably at Virginia Tech.
Few media figures, then, are more familiar with college players and prospects than Greenberg. When looking at the 2020 NBA Draft and specifically LaMelo Ball, Greenberg has one big, interesting question regarding the youngest Ball brother.
In an interview for MSG Network, Greenberg briefly discussed each of Ball, Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman while offering up a question on whether teams could win with Ball.
“He’s a really talented kid but there’s always an ‘if.’ Because is he going to be a winning player? He has incredible vision and great feel and legitimate size. But is he going to be a winning player? Who is going to guard? Does he understand what a good shot is and a bad shot is?”
The argument is another overused argument against Ball. There are plenty of valid arguments about Ball, mainly surrounding his inconsistent jumper or defensive acumen. Questioning if he can be a winning player when he won a state title in high school and did plenty of winning at SPIRE.
Regardless if Ball is considered a winning player, the Knicks still hold him in high regard as a prospect this season. The team has ranked him as the top point guard on their board from an early stage and has discussed multiple scenarios to trade up in the draft should they not land a top pick.
