ESPN’s Pete Thamel gives update on timeline for Pac-12 media rights deal

The Pac-12 media rights deal may not be completed until late this spring or summer, according to the latest report

The Pac-12 Conference still has not landed a new media deal despite ongoing conversations and rumors. With UCLA and USC leaving after one more year in the Pac-12, it is important that they lock in a deal quickly and focus on which programs they will bring over next.

Now, it looks like a new media rights deal won’t be struck until late spring or even the summer, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.

The timeline for the Pac-12’s upcoming television deal is coming into focus, and sources told ESPN on Thursday that no deal is expected for a few more months.

With Pac-12 CEOs set to meet next week, sources told ESPN to not expect a deal to be announced. The timeline for a Pac-12 television deal, according to sources, is sometime later this spring or this summer.

The current deal ends after the 2023-2024 season and the departures of USC and UCLA for the Big Ten aren’t helping with two major programs leaving. But, reports from the past few months signaled a deal would be completed soon.

San Diego State just helped its case with a stunning run to the national title game and a Final Four trip, but who knows which programs the Pac-12 is targeting for expansion.

For now, we continue to wait for a deal to get done.
