Six passing touchdowns in a conference game to open the season is what some might call a “Heisman performance.” ESPN’s team of college football writers agrees.

In their latest Heisman watch update, the ESPN team places UF quarterback Kyle Trask, who threw for 416 yards in a 51-35 win over Ole Miss on Saturday, at No. 5 out of six.

Trask is listed behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State‘s Justin Fields, Texas’ Sam Ehlinger and Mississippi State’s K.J. Costello. He’s one spot ahead of Miami’s D’Eriq King, who Trask backed up at Manvel High School in Texas.

Trask received 20 total votes, though none of them were first-place votes.

5. Kyle Trask, QB, Florida

Total points: 20 (first-place votes: 0)

Notable: In his season debut, Trask threw for six TDs and 416 yards in Florida’s double-digit win over Ole Miss. He completed 30 of 42 passes and threw zero interceptions.

Quotable: “I just feel like we had a great game plan,” Trask said. “We had answers for every look they were throwing us and had some great checks that we executed well.”

The Gators have a tradition of Heisman-winning quarterbacks, and Trask will hope to become the first UF passer to do so since Tim Tebow in 2007.
