ESPN recently unveiled its first Football Power Index rankings of the 2023 season. The Hawkeyes checked in with a Football Power Index rating of 7.3, which ranks 37th nationally.

ESPN’s FPI is intended to serve as a predictive tool that helps project the season.

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.
