ESPN’s David Pollack weighs in on LSU WR Ja’Marr Chase’s decision to opt out: ‘their offense ain’t going to be real good’

Given the circumstances surrounding the public health situation and the state the LSU offense is in, Chase opting out isn’t unreasonable.

The LSU football offense lost a lot of talent to the 2020 NFL Draft, and now the Tigers have lost one of their most important pieces with wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase opting out to prepare for the upcoming draft.

There’s plenty to make up for with a plethora of holes to fill, but coach Ed Orgeron has maintained the same confident attitude in his players steeping up that we’ve seen from him in his time in Baton Rouge.

ESPN’s David Pollack doesn’t seem to high on the offense, though.

“I’m just telling you, their offense ain’t going to be real good. You don’t go through all this stuff, and be at this point, and now go, ‘I’m opting out,’ unless you’re going, ‘Man, where is Joe Brady. Man, where is Joe Burrow,’” Pollack said recently in a podcast appearance. “I guarantee you he is literally like, ‘Oh my goodness, this is not what I want,’ so I think that says something about LSU.”

Looking at the reality of the situation, Chase doesn’t necessarily need this season to prove what he can do for an NFL team, and with the health risks potentially in play, the decision to opt out doesn’t seem unreasonable for him.

And it’s true, no one can really expect the Tigers offense to be as strong as it was in 2019’s historical season. There’s a chance we may never see one that magical again, with a quarterback who completely changes the stereotype of the position and a passing game coordinator who brings a level of game that no team has the slightest answer to.

It will be interesting to see which team the Biletnikoff Award winner ultimately lands with come April.
