It was at 10:34 a.m. Eastern that the New York Times’ Marc Stein tweeted that the NBA would announced the 2019-20 MVP on Friday at 2 p.m. ET. That included an announcement from NBA TV that it would reveal the MVP on a show hosted by Turner’s Ernie Johnson.
It was then 12 minutes later that ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo won his second straight MVP award.
It seems like that report might have blown up some plans for a bigger reveal given what the Bucks then tweeted at 11:08 a.m. Eastern, with the reaction being exactly what you’d expect:
Will Giannis be named back-to-back MVP!?!

Only a media nerd geek would care about this but Turner just sent out a press release saying NBA TV would announce the winner at 2pm today. They must be thrilled that Woj just Woj Bomb'd their whole show. https://t.co/OPrS98KGHZ

Honestly, this is better than waiting for the MVP announcement this afternoon, which had the feel of a Friday news dump buried on NBA TV.
We all knew this was going to be the result anyway.
Props to Giannis on going back-to-back. https://t.co/icQA0D6pJ8
