The NFL offseason continues to roll on, and despite free agency being open for nearly two months now, a handful of very productive NFL players are still looking for their next place of employment.
While Jadeveon Clowney tops the list, it is becoming less and less likely that he returns to Seattle following a handful of negotiations that have not gone anywhere.
In fact, when ESPN looked at the best fit for each remaining free agent, the Seahawks were not listed for Clowney by any of the three writers.
That was not the case for former Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen, however, as all three writers at ESPN picked the Seahawks as the best fit for the veteran pass rusher.
Griffen has long been considered a target for Seattle, particularly if they choose to go away from Clowney – which is looking more and more like the case.
Griffen played for coach Pete Carroll back at USC before racking up 74.5 sacks over a 10-year career with the Vikings, which has resulted in four Pro Bowl appearances, including last year.
The 32-year-old would immediately settle into a starting role on Seattle’s 4-3 defensive front, and his ability to get to the quarterback would boost this team’s pass rush immensely.
Even after signing Bruce Irvin and Benson Mayowa, and drafting Darrell Taylor and Alton Robinson, an addition like Griffen is a necessity for this team to rise to the top of the crowded NFC West and contend for a Super Bowl in 2020.
