ESPN: What Wisconsin football must do to become a national title contender in 2020

How Wisconsin can be a national title threat in 2020

“If … the legs improve.”

Connelly’s take:

Wisconsin’s field position margin was a decent +2.9 yards per drive, 31st in FBS. Just imagine what it might have been had Badgers punters averaged better than 36 net yards per punt. And imagine how the year might have played out had Badgers kickers not missed field goals in one-point losses to Illinois and Oregon or a turning-point FG attempt in the Big Ten title game. The legs let Wisconsin down. That can’t happen again.

There were many disasters in the kicking game throughout the 2019 season, specifically against Ohio State and Oregon in the biggest moments. This could be the question that has the least answers at this point in the offseason. We will see who steps forward to take the lead roles, specifically at punter. The Badgers need to avoid mishaps that last season arguably costed them a Rose Bowl win.
