The regular season continues to wind down in 2022-23 and the MVP race is coming down to the wire. Once again, it comes down to Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid and Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic.
Embiid has finished as the runner-up to Jokic in the previous two MVP races, but the big fella has taken his game to another level. He is averaging 33.2 points on 54.4% shooting, and he has thrown the Sixers on his back on numerous occasions.
Jokic is also having another incredible season, averaging 24.9 points, 11.9 rebounds and 9.9 assists while guiding the Nuggets to first place in the West. He has just as strong a case to win the award as Embiid does.
In ESPN’s latest straw poll for MVP, Embiid is edging Jokic by two points as the race comes down to the wire:
“These may not be my final answers,” one voter said.
Another asked, “Can’t you wait until after the regular season is over?”

Embiid will have six games left to stake his claim for the MVP award, and he might not play all of them considering he is nursing a calf injury. It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the season winds down.
