Entering the NCAA Tournament as a top-four seed means more in college women’s basketball compared to the men’s side.
Opposed to the men’s March Madness, each of the 16 women’s teams that earn a top-four seed host first and second-round games. That’s why Colorado being tabbed as a No. 1 seed in ESPN’s latest women’s bracketology is significant.
Head coach JR Payne’s Buffs are 9-1 at the CU Events Center this season with only four more regular-season home games remaining. Colorado, which beat USC in Boulder on Sunday, is 16-2 overall and was ranked No. 3 in Monday’s AP Poll.
So, while there’s still plenty of basketball left to be played, the Buffs are on pace to receive home-court advantage in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013. ESPN women’s bracketologist Charlie Creme projects the Buffs to host either Morehead State or Sacred Heart in the first round.
Other No. 1 seeds in Creme’s Tuesday update were South Carolina, UCLA and Stanford.
Currently staring at a four-game road trip, Colorado will be tested heavily over the next two weeks, however. The road Buffs are set to face No. 25 Oregon State in Corvallis on Friday evening.

From 1-seeds to bubble teams, there were no easy decisions – except South Carolina at No. 1. The other three 1-seeds are from the Pac-12. And Tennessee is back after a six-week absence.
