ESPN predicts the winner of Saturday’s Iron Bowl

Will Auburn pull off the upset of No. 13 Alabama on the road?

Auburn football needs one win to earn bowl eligibility, and its final chance to accomplish that dream is Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

Auburn’s annual Iron Bowl date with No. 13 Alabama is this Saturday, and the Tigers would love nothing more than to beat their bitter rivals to earn its sixth win of the season while simultaneously ending the Crimson Tide’s College Football Playoff hopes.

Will the Tigers get it done? ESPN’s early assessment does not align with Auburn’s goal. According to ESPN’s matchup predictor, Auburn has just a 12.3% chance to beat Alabama on Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Alabama ranks No. 4 in the latest ESPN football power index while Auburn checks in at No. 29. ESPN data shows that Alabama is a top-12 team in both offensive and defensive efficiency while Auburn’s best quality is defensive efficiency, which ranks No. 33 nationally. Auburn has momentum after winning its last two games, but will need to beat the numbers, as well as the Bryant-Denny crowd, to escape Tuscaloosa with a win.

Auburn football battles Alabama on Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT and can be seen on ABC.
