ESPN predicts LSU will make New Year’s 6 in 2023

The Tigers missed out on the New Year’s Six last season, but they could rectify that this fall.

There’s no denying that 2022 was a successful season in Baton Rouge, but it could have been better.

Despite beating Alabama to win the SEC West, a loss to Texas A&M in the final regular season game ended the Tigers’ College Football Playoff hopes and ultimately cost it a spot in the New Year’s Six, as well.

LSU has its eyes on the playoff, but reaching the NY6 would also mark a sign of progress. While both ESPN’s Mark Schlabach and Kyle Bonagura have the Tigers missing the CFP in their preseason bowl projections, they both predict NY6 destinations for the Tigers.

Schlabach has the Tigers heading to the Cotton Bowl for a matchup against the Texas Longhorns, while Bonagura sets up an intriguing Peach Bowl matchup between LSU and Tulane.

LSU certainly has bigger ambitions this year, but either of these would mark a successful campaign and progress from Year 1 for the Tigers.
