LSU quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] is shooting up the draft boards and now, with just a couple of months between now and the 2024 NFL draft, he’s seen as a nearly surefire top-five pick.
ESPN recently broke down projected landing spots for all the quarterbacks in the NFL with questions about their futures, including pending free agents and up-and-coming draft picks. For Daniels, it was a familiar projection.
He’s heading to New England, per this projection, where he’ll work with the new Patriots staff led by Jerod Mayo. Daniels is widely seen as QB3 in the draft behind Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, and most mocks have him going to the Pats at No. 3 overall.
Just as DeMeco Ryans and C.J. Stroud created an exciting coach-QB reboot in Houston, New England would be counting on a Jerod Mayo/Daniels combination sparking similar hope. It is awfully hard to pass on Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. here, but the Patriots badly need a quarterback, and Daniels’ dual-threat skill set could ultimately secure the position for the next decade. And remember, we signed Brissett, so Daniels could be eased into the mix instead of thrown right into the fire.
ESPN also has the Patriots adding a veteran quarterback for depth in free agency in Jacoby Brissett, though it said that he would only be there for competition and as a fallback plan if the rookie, in this case Daniels, weren’t ready to play.
