ESPN looks ahead to Florida’s road game against Tennessee

Take a look at ESPN’s outlook for this weekend’s Tennessee tangle from the perspective of both teams.

One of the things new head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] stressed coming into his debut campaign with Florida football was to quickly turn the page after each week.

Win or lose, he expects his program to process the results from the previous matchup before turning his attention to the next opponent on the schedule.

After a win on Saturday against the South Florida Bulls that raised more questions than it provided answers, the Gators need to get in gear for their first road game of the 2022 campaign. It is against one of their historic rivals: the Tennessee Volunteers. The team from Rocky Top has dealt with high expectations pretty well so far, though it did get a scare from the Pitt Panthers in overtime during Week 2.

ESPN’s staff put together its AP Top 25 college football poll reaction following the third full week of gridiron action, looking ahead at what is next for each respective team. Andrea Adelson weighed in with her take on the Orange and Blue after a weak win heading into the team’s toughest matchup yet.

Nothing about the last few weeks has inspired much confidence about which version of the Gators will show up to play rival Tennessee in Knoxville. The defense has played well at times; at others, it has allowed the opposition to run right through it. Meanwhile, Florida has simply been unable to get anything going with its passing offense. [autotag]Anthony Richardson[/autotag] has zero touchdown passes to four interceptions on the season. Relying on their running game will only get them so far in SEC play.

On the other hand, Chris Low offered his take from the Vols’ perspective.

One game never makes a season, but Tennessee could set itself up for one of the best seasons it’s had in a while this Saturday when Florida comes to town. The Vols have improved steadily under Josh Heupel, but the measuring stick for any Tennessee coach will always be how he fares against Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Even some of Tennessee’s best teams have stumbled against the Gators over the years, but the Vols get a chance to break that curse at home.

Florida and Tennessee are slated to face off in Knoxville this Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EDT. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports and can be heard on the Gators Radio Network.
