ESPN lists Cam Coleman among college football’s best freshmen wide receivers

ESPN’s Tom Luginbill calls Coleman a “difference maker.”

Auburn football fans are excited about the possibility of their favorite program’s passing game being boosted by freshman [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag].

Coleman has endured plenty of hype during his short time on campus. The 2024 signee has been tabbed as an “instant impact freshman” by ESPN and USA TODAY Sports. Expectations have grown for Coleman even more this week as ESPN’s Tom Luginbill has tabbed the Phenix City native as one of the three best freshman wide receivers ahead of the season.

Luginbill says that Coleman is a special player who can majorly impact the Tigers’ offense.

Coleman is a difference-maker. Auburn needed a massive overhaul at receiver after an abysmal 2023 performance. Enter Coleman, who can be a blend of speed, size and range, especially on contested deep balls. He shined in the spring game, earning MVP honors, and should become the go-to target in this offense. Coleman is a safety blanket for quarterbacks because they don’t have to be perfect. He can bail out a quarterback’s poor throw, even when he’s covered

Coleman grabs the honor alongside Alabama‘s Ryan Williams and Ohio State‘s Jeremiah Smith. Coleman signed with Auburn as the No. 5 recruit in the ESPN 300 for the 2024 cycle and is expected to snag a starting spot for Auburn’s season opener against Alabama A&M on Aug. 31 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
