ESPN forecasts Warriors passing on LaMelo Ball with No. 2 pick in 2020 NBA Draft

LaMelo Ball and the Golden State Warriors are a tantalizing pairing, but it appears to be one that, ultimately, won’t happen this season.

While LaMelo Ball being drafted by the Warriors is a fun scenario to imagine, it appears to be a scenario that will ultimately be theory versus reality. The Golden State Warriors find themselves near the top of the 2020 NBA Draft with the No. 2 pick in the draft but have made it clear that Ball is well down their big board.

Their not-so-subtle reports have swayed public opinion enough that most believe the team won’t draft Ball. ESPN’s Forecast panel answered a number of questions via polls in a piece on Tuesday, one of those addressing the Warriors plans with the No. 2 pick.

When asked what the Warriors should do with the No. 2 pick, drafting LaMelo Ball (if available) with the No. 2 pick received 3.8% of the vote. The question of what the team will do was also asked and the same response received 11.5% of the vote.

The most common response was that the Warriors would trade the No. 2 pick in a win-now move with both polls have 57.7% of voters choose that option. The other option in the poll, draft another top prospect (with the No. 2 pick or by trading down), received 38.5% of the votes in what they should do and 30.8% in what they will do polls.

While it’s hard to predict the final decision the team will make, it’s fair to assume, at this point, the team will not be drafting Ball.
