ESPN College GameDay pickers split on Texas A&M vs. Florida

The panel was split on picking Texas A&M vs. Florida at 3-3

Texas A&M (1-1) will take on the Florida Gators (1-1) on Saturday afternoon in a game that could dictate each program’s season, especially in conference play. Even worse, both teams deal with potentially significant injury issues before kickoff.

However, the news that Texas A&M starting quarterback Conner Weigman could miss the game altogether as a game-time decision would completely change the Aggies’ offensive game plan, resulting in redshirt freshman QB Marcel Reed’s first regular-season start.

For the Gators, head coach Billy Napier, who might need this win to secure his future with the program, opted to start senior QB Graham Mertz over freshman DJ Lagway, who dazzled last weekend after throwing for 456 yards and three touchdowns in his first career start.

While the final injury report will be released 90 minutes before the game’s 2:30 p.m. CT Kickoff, ESPN’s College GameDay, in the usual fashion, picked who they believe will win.

Desmond Howard, Nick Saban, and Lee Corso picked Florida mainly due to Weigman’s potential absence. In contrast, celebrity guest pickers Dawn Staley, Pat McAfee, and Kirk Herbstreit picked the Aggies.

Herbstreit provided the most interesting reasoning, stating that he believes Marcel Reed might be a better fit for Texas A&M OC Collin Klein’s scheme due to his playmaking duel-threat ability.

Texas A&M will travel to Gainsville to take on the Florida Gators on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ABC.
