ESPN College GameDay coming to Minneapolis for Michigan-Minnesota matchup

ESPN has chosen the Michigan football season opener for College GameDay. Here’s how Michigan has fared historically with the show in town.

Not only is Michigan playing in primetime to open up the 2020 season for the third consecutive year, some familiar faces are going to be in town for the game.

The Wolverines have been something of a mainstay on ESPN College GameDay, especially when they’ve played Ohio State, traveled to Penn State, the 2018 home game against Wisconsin or the season opener at Notre Dame, also in 2018.

Again, the pregame show will be on the campus of the team that the maize and blue are set to play, as ESPN College GameDay announced that it’s headed to Minneapolis for the Oct. 24 showdown between Michigan and Minnesota.

This seemed to be all but a formality that it would be announced, as both teams are ranked and the matchup is the ABC primetime game. With Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit on the call, given the coronavirus pandemic, wherever the primetime game is has been where College GameDay has been.

Now, it’s set, and the Wolverines better hope they put on a better performance than some of the other recent appearances by ESPN’s flagship program. Michigan is 1-7 when College GameDay is on campus of its game, with the sole win coming in 2018 as it hosted Wisconsin. This is the 32nd appearance for the maize and blue with College GameDay in town, and Michigan has an overall record of 15-16 in its 31 previous games in which ESPN’s popular show was in town.

The show is set to begin at 9 a.m. EDT on ESPN on Oct. 24, while the game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. EDT on ABC.
