No. 14 Tennessee opened its Southeastern Conference series at Florida Friday on a winning note.
The Lady Vols scored six runs over the final three innings to shut out No. 6 Florida, 6-0, at KSP Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.
After Tennessee (21-8, 4-2 SEC) and Florida (26-4, 4-3 SEC) battled through four scoreless innings, the Lady Vols took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning with a solo home run by McKenna Gibson.
Tennessee, which won its second consecutive game, added two more runs in the sixth inning as Ashley Morgan hit a two-run double.
In the seventh inning, freshman Lair Beautae had an RBI single and Ivy Davis drove in two runs with a hit to provide the final margin.
Beautae, the Lady Vols’ freshman second baseman, went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run and one RBI.
Morgan finished 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, while Davis went 1-for-3, recording two runs and scoring another.
Erin Edmoundson pitched a complete game as she allowed six hits and finished with five strikeouts.
