The Miami Dolphins will be hosting the Carolina Panthers this Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, and while the game may have looked easier a few weeks ago, the arrival of a new/old quarterback has changed some things about this matchup.
Cam Newton signed with the Panthers just over two weeks ago, bringing him back to the team that he was drafted by and brought to a Super Bowl. Newton’s been known to have fun on the field, so it’s no surprise that guys like Dolphins cornerback Eric Rowe have positive things to say about him.
“Every time we play him, he brings all the energy,” Rowe said during his Wednesday media availability. “He brings it for both sides. He gets us [expletive] off, and obviously, that gets us going, and obviously energy for his team. Every time we play him, it’s always fun. He’s one of the most competitive quarterbacks that I’ve been against, in a sense of he’s talking crap to everybody.”
Newton had a pretty poor year in New England in 2020, and the drafting of Mac Jones in the first round led to his surprise release before the start of the 2021 season. He had been sitting as a free agent since then with no real rumors of a signing despite injuries in Washington and Seattle.
However, Rowe is right. A lot of players in this league look up to the quarterback, and they enjoy competing against him. It’s that trash-talking that makes the game fun, even if the league wants to eliminate taunting all together.
