Eric Ebron’s got a message for all the Mitchell Trubisky haters

It’s always popular to pile on Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky simply after looking at a box score. Looking at the box score, the Bears are 2-0.

It’s no secret that Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky doesn’t have many supporters after an underwhelming three-year career. In fact, he’s everyone’s favorite punching bag, especially in the media.

Which, to be fair, most of the criticism is warranted. But it’s always popular for people, who aren’t watching the game, to pile on the fourth-year QB simply after looking at a box score.

Well, if those people are looking at the box score they’ll notice an important stat next to the Bears’ name: 2-0.

That’s the message Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Eric Ebron, Trubisky’ former college teammate at North Carolina, has for all the Trubisky haters.

It’s been quite an eventful journey for Trubisky up to this point this season. After a disappointing 2019 season, the Bears declined his fifth-year option and traded for quarterback Nick Foles to challenge him for the starting job.

After an unusual offseason without organized team activities or preseason, Trubisky won the starting quarterback job and now has his team 2-0 for the first time since 2013.

Now, it’s certainly been far from sunshine and rainbows for the former No. 2 overall pick, who’s played three impressive quarters and five unimpressive quarters of football in these first two games. Through two games, Trubisky has completed 38-of-64 passes (59.4%) for 432 yards with five touchdowns to two interceptions for a 92.7 passer rating. Not exactly a great completion percentage.

But if there’s an encouraging sign, it’s that this doesn’t look like the same Trubisky from last season. Sure, he still struggles with his footwork and accuracy. But his decision making and going through his progressions are certainly improved from last season.

In those three quarters of excellence, Trubisky looked like a great quarterback in this league. The only problem is, he hasn’t managed to be consistent in that play, which could also have to do with the overall offensive performance.

Last week, Trubisky had one solid quarter. This week, he had two great quarters. Perhaps next week Trubisky will put together three impressive quarters before eventually making it to four, which would certainly have this team rolling.
